These luxe fibres are carefully selected for each St. Cloud Label piece and should be handled with love and care.
The washing instructions on our garments' care labels will give you yarn-specific advice on how to care for your garment, to ensure they remain long-loved favourites for seasons to come.
We use a wide selection of yarns to create our garments, from bouncy textured Mohairs, through to fine soft Silk / Cotton blend yarns.
We have outlined some general washing and care instructions for all of our knits below.
DRY CLEANING
Dry Cleaning can be great to remove tough stains on knitwear however always refer to your care label first before taking your garment to your dry cleaner. It is also recommended that you avoid dry cleaning knitwear often as chemicals used in dry cleaning can be harmful to some knitwear fibres.
HOW TO TO MACHINE WASH
We recommend hand washing all our knits, to assist with longevity and to maintain the yarns characteristics.
We understand that hand washing is often a chore, but always refer to your care label before proceeding with machine washing. Some washing machines have a special setting for Woolens or Knits, but please be aware of water temperature and avoid spin cycles to ensure your knits are not damaged by your machine. When you do wash them, remember that wool fibres can be prone to pilling and felting, so we suggest that you avoid high temperatures and friction.
Knitwear should always be washed using ‘Woolen’ or mild detergent.
CAREING FOR OUR LUXE FIBRES
St Cloud garment has been made from luxurious yarn and pilling may occur. This is a natural characteristic of some yarns yarn. Please use a pill removing device if required.
The general rule for knit garments is
- Cold hand wash separately in wool detergent.
- Do not bleach, soak, rub or wring
- Reduced spin
- Roll in towel to remove excess water
- Dry flat in shade
- Easing back into original shape
- Do not tumble Dry
- Warm iron under protective cloth if needed
- Dry cleanable (P)
Always refer to the yarn-specific washing instructions on the care label inside each garment.
MANAGING PILLING
St. Cloud Label uses high quality fibres; we take the upmost care in choosing and testing these yarns.
It is a characteristic of knitwear to pill and shed with wear. Pilling is often caused by friction and movement of the loose fibres at the surface of a knit.
To reduce pilling, ensure that your garment isn’t subjected to any long term rubbing/ friction against another garment or surface.
During the first few wears of a knit garment, pilling or shedding may occur. Garments made from natural fibres such as; Wool, Mohair, Angora and Cashmere require a little extra care and maintenance with a de-piller or wool comb to keep them looking optimal.
For the best possible results, use your de-pilling comb on knitted garments laid on a flat surface. Ensure that your garment is completely dry before de-pilling. Gently brush, taking care to only run the comb along the surface without pushing too hard. Some pill balls will be removed easier than others.
Repeat this process until all pill balls have been removed.
HOW TO DEAL WITH SNAGS AND PULLS
Knits can be prone to snagging and pulling when the yarn gets caught in jewellery or accessories.
If you notice a snag in your garment, do not cut the yarn - it can unravel and cause more damage to the garment.
Pull the snag through to the reverse side and ease back into the knit by gently wiggling the garment either side of the pull
HOW TO STORE YOUR KNITS
We always recommend folding your St Cloud Label knits. Gravity and garment weight can cause the garments to stretch or distort out of shape. If you must hang your knits, make sure you use the hang tape attached to reduce strain on shoulders.
DRYING YOUR KNIT
Your knits will last a lot longer between washes if you spot clean them where needed and simply air them out.
When drying after wash, we suggest that you lay the knit flat on a towel to absorb any extra moisture. Gently reshaping them as they dry (knits can be very heavy when wet and the weight can sometimes pull them out of shape if drying over a rail or hanging up).
Remember, no knitted garment will enjoy a trip round the tumble dryer, so always air dry if possible.
